北アメリカの中部から西部、カナダ南部からカリフォルニア州、メキシコそれに東はウィスコンシン州あたりまで分布しています。草原や岩礫地などに生え、高さは２０〜５０センチになります。葉は披針形で、全体に粗い灰色の毛に被われています。５月から１０月ごろ、茎頂に直径２．５センチほどの黄色い頭花を咲かせます。

キク科アレチオグルマ属の多年草で、学名は Heterotheca villosa。英名は Golden aster。

The golden aster (Heterotheca villosa) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to central and western North America, southern Canada west to California and Mexico, and east to Wisconsin. This herb grows in grasslands and on screes, and it can reach 20-50 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate and covered over all with gray rough hairs. The flower-heads are yellow about 2.5 cm across, and bloom atop a stalk from May to October.
