アメリカのカリフォルニア州からメキシコにかけて分布している「モントレーいとすぎ」の園芸品種です。ヨーロッパで改良されたもので成長が早く、高さは１０メートルくらいになります。樹形は柱状で、葉が黄金色に輝きます。

ヒノキ科イトスギ属の常緑高木で、学名は Cupressus macrocarpa cv. Goldcrest。英名は Monterey cypress Goldcrest。

The Monterey cypress Goldcrest (Cupressus macrocarpa cv. Goldcrest) belongs to Cupressaceae (the Cypress family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is a cultivar of "Monterey cypress" distributed from California in the United States to Mexico. This tree has been improved in Europe and grows quickly, reaching a height of about 10 meters. The tree shape is columnar, and the leaves shine golden.
