メキシコの南東部、チアパス州（Estado de Chiapas）に分布しています。熱帯雨林の林内に生える着生植物です。茎は長さ１．５メートルほどになり、羽状に分裂します。この深い切れ込みは「こんぶ（昆布）」に似ています。花は直径２０センチほどで、狭い紫色を帯びた萼片と、広くて白色の花弁があります。花の中心部にはたくさんの金色の花糸があります。種小名は「金色の心（chryso + cardium）」を意味しています。果実は球形で多くの棘があり、黄色く熟します。

サボテン科クジャクサボテン属の常緑多年草で、学名は Epiphyllum chrysocardium（syn. Selenicereus chrysocadium、Marniera chrysocardium）。英名は Fernleaf cactus。

The Fernleaf cactus (Epiphyllum chrysocardium) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen perennial herbacious plant that is distributed in the state of Chiapas (southeast Mexico). This cactus is an epiphyte that occurs in tropical rainforests. Branches can reach 1.5 m in length and have huge lobes that cut to the midrib. The lobes look like sea tangle's. Flowers are about 20 cm wide and have narrow purplish sepals, and broad white petals. Golden filaments abound in the center of the flower. This specific epithet means golden heart (chryso + cardium). Fruits are spherical with numerous spines, and ripen yellowish.
