北アメリカの中部から東部に分布しています。開けた森林や草地、川岸、湿地帯などに生え、高さは３０〜９０センチになります。茎は基部で分枝して、地面を這います。葉はほとんどが基部に生え、楕円形から長楕円形で、先端は丸く、縁には鋸歯があります。４月から５月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして散房花序をだし、直径２センチほどの黄色い頭花を咲かせます。舌状花は８〜１３個あります。果実は痩果で、冠毛がついています。

キク科パッケラ属の多年草で、学名は Packera aurea (syn. Senecio aureus)。英名は Golden ragwort、Golden groundsel。

The Golden ragwort (Packera aurea) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in central and eastern North America. It grows in open forests, meadows, riverbanks and wetlands and is 30-90 cm tall. The stems are branched at the base and creep along the ground. The leaves are mostly basal, elliptic to oblong, with rounded tips and serrated edges. From April to May the flower stalks extend to produce corymbs with yellow flower heads up to 2 cm in diameter. There are 8-13 ray florets. The fruit is achene with pappus.
