ニューギニアが原産です。高さは２．５メートルほどになり、斑入りの楕円形の葉が対生します。総状花序をだし、淡紫色から赤紫色の筒状花を咲かせます。観葉植物として栽培され、多くの園芸品種があります。和名では「クロトンもどき（クロトン擬き）」と呼ばれています。

キツネノマゴ科グラプトフィルム属の常緑小低木で、学名は Graptophyllum pictum。英名は Caricature plant。

The Caricature plant (Graptophyllum pictum) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Acanthus family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to New Guinea. This shrub grows up to about 2.5 m in height, and has variegated ovate leaves opposite to each other. It produces racemes and blooms pale purple to magenta tubular flowers. It is cultivated as a houseplant and there are many cultivars.
