北アメリカの南部と西インド諸島が原産です。野原や荒れ地、牧草地に生え、高さは５０〜２００センチになります。茎は基部から多く分枝します。葉は１〜２回羽状複葉で、裂片は線形です。夏から秋に穂状花序をだし、頭花を咲かせます。筒状花は緑色を帯びた白色で、頭花あたり３〜６個つきます。

The dogfennel (Eupatorium capillifolium) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to southeastern North America and the West Indies. This herb grows in fields, waste lands and meadow, and can reach 50-200 cm in height. It is much branched at the base. The leaves are once to twice pinnatly compound with linear lobes. The flower heads bloom on the spikes from summer to fall. The tubular flowers are greenish white and 3-6 per flower head.
