わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道に分布しています。山地帯から亜高山帯の草地に生え、高さは３０〜５０センチになります。葉は掌状に５〜７深裂し、互生します。茎や葉柄、花柄には腺毛が生えています。６月から８月ごろ、淡い紫紅色の花を咲かせます。花色は濃淡の変異が大きいようです。名前は、山梨県東部の郡内地方に因みます。

フウロソウ科フウロソウ属の多年草で、学名は Geranium eriostemon var. reinii。英名はありません。

"Gunnai-fuuro" (Geranium eriostemon var. reinii) belongs to Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Honshu, from Chubu district north to Hokkaido in Japan. This herb grows in montane to sub-alpine zone and can reach 30-50 cm in height. The leaves are alternate and divited into 5-7 deep palmately. The stems, petioles and peduncles are covered with glandular hairs. The pale purple-rose pink flowers bloom in June through August. The flower-color is highly variable in shading. The Japanes name is derived from the Gunnai district in eastern Yamanashi Prefecture.
