アメリカの南西部、テキサス州からニューメキシコ州、アリゾナ州に分布しています。石灰岩の岩層の上に生え、高さは４５〜７５センチになります。茎は基部から分枝し、下部は木質化します。葉は狭くて粘り、長さは４〜６センチです。花茎は主枝の先端で分枝します。夏から秋にかけて、黄色い頭花を房状に咲かせます。頭花には１〜２個の舌状花と１〜３個の筒状花があります。

キク科ギムノスペルマ属の多年草で、学名は Gymnosperma glutinosum。英名は Gumhead。

The gumhead (Gymnosperma glutinosum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to the south-western United States; Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. This herb grows on limestone ledges, and can reach 45-75 cm in height. The stem is branched from the base, and the lower part of stem is woody. The leaves are narrow and sticky, 4-6 cm long. The flower stems are branched at the end of the main stems. The yellow flower-heads bloom in clusters from summer to fall. The heads have 1-2 ray flowers and 1-3 disc flowers.
