ニュージーランドやオーストラリアのタスマニア地方が原産です。高さは３〜５メートルになり、枝には棘があります。３月から６月ごろ、「うめ」に似たかわいい花をたくさん咲かせます。花色には赤色やピンク、白色などがあり、一重咲きと八重咲きがあります。ニュージーランドの国花です。

フトモモ科ネズモドキ属の常緑低木で、学名は Leptspermum scoparium。英名は Tea-tree。

The tea-tree (Leptspermum scoparium) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to New Zealand and Tasmania of Australia. This tree grows up 3-5 m in height and it has spines on branches. The Japanese apricot-like, pretty flowers bloom abundantly from March to June. They are red or pink, white flower-color, and double flower or single flower. It is the national flower of New Zealand.
