アブラナ科アブラナ属の多年草で、学名は Brassica campestris var. glabra。英名は Turnip。
The turnip (Brassica campestris var. glabra) belongs to Brassiaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is native from Europe to Central Asia. This herb was introduced into Japan via China in Yayoi Era (800 B.C.-200). It is a variety of "Wild turnip" (Brassica campestris) and has been made improvements for using root. The small turnip (European type) is cultivated in eastern Japan and the large turnip is cultivated in western Japan.
