南アフリカが原産です。草原の砂礫地に広く分布していて、高さは２〜３メートルになります。茎はビロードのような毛に包まれ、基部は木化します。披針形の葉は、表面は粗くて鋸歯があります。秋に、花茎を取り巻くような花序を２〜３段つけ、鮮やかなオレンジ色の花を咲かせます。アプリコットやクリーミーホワイトの花色もあります。茎や葉には芳香があって、花はドライフラワーに利用されます。 |

シソ科カエンキセワタ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Leonotis leonurus。英名は Wild dagga、Lion's ear。 |

The wild dagga (Leonotis leonurus) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to South Africa. This shrub grows on prairie gravel areas and can reach 2-3 m in height. The stems are covered with velvety hairs and lignify at the base. The leaves are lanceolate, rough textured and serrate. The flower clusters are 1-3 tiers and annular, and the bright orange flowers bloom in fall. They have also apricot or creamy white flower color. The stems and leaves are scented, and the flowers used as a dried flower. |
