わが国の固有種で、本州の静岡県中西部および山梨県南部に分布しています。山地の広葉樹林の林床に生え、高さは１０センチほどになります。葉は広卵形から三角状卵形で、基部は心形です。葉の表面は光沢あり濃緑色、無地または斑紋があります。１０月から１１月ごろ、根際に淡紫色から暗褐色の花を咲かせます。萼筒は円筒形または鐘形で、咽部は少し括れます。萼裂片は三角形で濃紫褐色をしています。萼筒の中には雌しべが６個あり、先端が曲がっていて、和名もこの形に因みます。

ウマノスズクサ科カンアオイ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Asarum curvistigma (syn. Heterotropa curvistigma)。英名はありません。

The "Kagigata-aoi" (Asarum curvistigma) belongs to Aristolochiaceae (the Birthwort family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and is distributed in the central-western parts of Shizuoka Prefecture and the southern part of Yamanashi Prefecture in Honshu. It grows on the floor of broadleaf forests in mountainous areas and is about 10 cm tall. The leaves are broadly ovate to triangular-ovate with a heart-shaped base. Pale purple to dark brown flowers bloom at the base from October to November. The calyx tube is cylindrical or bell-shaped with a slightly constricted throat. The calyx lobes are triangular and dark purple-brown. Inside the calyx tube are six pistils with curved tips, giving it its Japanese name.
