熱帯アフリカが原産です。高さは１２メートルほどになります。濃緑色の葉は「かしわ（柏）」に似ていて、革質で大きく波打ち、葉脈は黄緑色をしています。果実は「いちじく（無花果）」のようなかたちで、白い斑点があります。英名では、この葉のかたちをバイオリンに見立てています。

クワ科イチジク属の常緑高木で、学名は Ficus lyrata。英名は Fiddle-leaf ficus。

The Fiddle-leaf ficus (Ficus lyrata) belongs to Moraceae (the Mulberry family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to tropical Africa. This tree can reach about 12 m in height. Leaves are deep green, oak-like, leathery with wavy edges and yellowish green veins. Fruits look like figs with white spotted. The common is named from the fiddle-shaped, describing the shape of the leaves.
