オーストラリアの東部に分布しています。草地や林内の生え、高さは６０〜１００センチになります。茎はふつうよく分枝して、翼があります。根生葉は狭い卵形で有柄、茎葉はわずかにつき苞葉状で無柄です。夏、白い紙状の総苞に包まれた黄色い小筒花を咲かせます。「オーストラリアひめあかたては」の幼虫の大事な食草です。

キク科カイザイク属の多年草で、学名は Ammobium alatum。英名は Winged everlasting。

The winged everlasting belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to eastern Australia. This herb grows in grasslands or woodlands and can reach 60-100 cm in height. The stems are usually much-branched with an external ribbing. The basal leaves are narrow-ovate and petiolate. The cauline leaves are few, bract-like and sessile. The yellow florets with white papery involucra bracts come in summer. It is an important foodplant for Australian painted lady caterpillars.
