The Nomame senna (Cassia minosoides ssp. nomame) belongs to the family Caesalpiniaceae. It is an annual herb that is distributed to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, northeastern and central China. This herb grows on stream banks and roadsides, and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are pari-pinnate compound with 15-35 pairs of small lanceolate leaflets. The yellow flowers come on the axiles from August to September. The fruits are flat seed pods 3-4 cm long. The seeds are used as a substitute for sicklepod tea. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "豆茶決明" and "豆茶決明" (dou cha jue ming) in Chinese.
