"Kara-kon-terigi" (Hydrangea chinensis) belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed in the Southwest Islands of Japan, from Yaku Island to Okino-erabu Island and Taiwan, southeastern China and Philippine. This tree grows in montane forests and can reach 1-4 m in height. The leaves are oblong-lanceolate to oblong, glossy and opposite. The umbels or subcorymbs are borne on the terminal branchlets, and bloom white flowers in March to August. The asexual flowers have four white petaloid sepals.
