"Kamome-ran" (Orchis cyclochila) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Chubu region of Honshu northward to Hokkaido and the Kii Peninsula, Shikoku in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, northeastern China, Sakhalin, and eastern Siberia. It grows on moist forest margins in mountainous to subalpine zones and is 10 to 20 cm tall. The leaves are broadly elliptic and single, basal, and around June to July, the flower stalks extend to produce pale red flowers. The labellum has purple spots. Rarely, there are also white flowers. In Chinese, it is called "卵唇盔花蘭" (luan chun kui hua lan).
