The "Kani-koumori" (Cacalia adenostyloides) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Honshu and Shikoku in Japan. This herb grows gregariously in sub-alpine coniferous forests and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are crab-shell shaped with irregular toothed edges. The panicles are borne at the stem apices and the small white flowers bloom from August to September.
