ポリネシアのソロモン諸島からパプアニューギニアに分布しています。茎は扁平でよく分枝し、自生地では高さが４メートルにもなります。葉は披針形で、茎の節に互生します。節に束状に、小さな目立たない白い花を咲かせます。耐寒性は強くて､暖地では露地でも越冬します｡別名で「リボンブッシュ」とも呼ばれます。

タデ科ホマロクラディウム属の常緑多年草で、学名は Homalocladium platycladum。英名は Ribbon plant、Centipede plant。

The ribbon plant (Homalocladium platycladum) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from Solomon Islands in Polynesia to Papua New Guinea. The stems are flat and well-branched, with a height of 4 m in its own habitat. The leaves are lanceolate and alternate with the nodes of the stem. The small, inconspicuous white flowers come in bundles on the nodes. It has strong cold resistance and can overwinter even in open areas in warm regions.
