"Kan-ran" (Cymbidium kanran) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed westward from Shizuoka prefecture of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan and southern China. This herb grows in warm evergreen broad-leaved forests, has small pseudobulbs, and has several linear leaves. The flower stalks are extended to produce racemes, and bloom light purple-brown to light yellow-green flowers from around November. The flowers have a fragrance. It is a member of "Riverstream orchid" (Cymbidium goeringii) that blooms in early spring.
