わが国の本州、静岡県以西から四国、九州それに台湾や中国南部に分布しています。温暖な常緑広葉樹林に生え、偽球茎は小さく、線形の葉を数個つけます。１１月ごろから、花茎を伸ばして総状花序をだし、淡紫褐色から淡黄緑色の花を咲かせます。花には芳香があります。早春に咲く「しゅんらん（春蘭）」の仲間です。 |

"Kan-ran" (Cymbidium kanran) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed westward from Shizuoka prefecture of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan and southern China. This herb grows in warm evergreen broad-leaved forests, has small pseudobulbs, and has several linear leaves. The flower stalks are extended to produce racemes, and bloom light purple-brown to light yellow-green flowers from around November. The flowers have a fragrance. It is a member of "Riverstream orchid" (Cymbidium goeringii) that blooms in early spring. |
