「ポプラ」はヨーロッパや北アメリカが原産です。この「改良ポプラ」は、イタリアをはじめとするヨーロッパ各地で交配された品種群で、わが国へは第二次大戦後に木材用として植林するために導入されました。現在では、成長が早いので当面の緑化用に植栽されています。ただ「カミキリムシ」の食害に遭いやすく、また寿命も４０年ほどと短いのが欠点です。

ヤナギ科ヤマナラシ属の落葉高木で、学名は Populus x euroamericana。英名は Poplar。

The poplar (Populus x euroamericana) belongs to Salicaceae (the Willow family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is cultivar-groups of poplar. It was improved in Europe including Italia. It was introduced into Japan as a timber after the Second World War. It is now planted for afforestation, reason of its fast growth. This tree suffers from the disadvantage of the longicorn's feeding damage and the short lifetime of about 40-years.
