わが国の本州から四国・九州の太平洋岸、それに台湾に分布しています。樹木の幹などに着生し、長さ１〜４センチの茎は下垂します。葉は線状披針形、厚い革質です。夏に花茎をだして、黄色い花を咲かせます。花披片には赤褐色の斑が入り、唇弁は白色です。台湾華語では「黄松蘭」と呼ばれます。

ラン科カシノキラン属の常緑多年草で、学名は Gastrochilus japonicus。英名はありません。

"Kashinoki-ran" (Gastrochilus japonicus) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from Honshu to the Pacific coast of Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, and Taiwan. It grows on tree trunks, etc., with drooping stems 1 to 4 cm long. The leaves are linear-lanceolate and thickly leathery. Flower stalks emerge in summer and yellow flowers bloom. The tepals have reddish-brown spots and the labellum is white. It is called "黄松蘭" in Taiwanese.
