ブータンのヒマラヤ東部とインド北東部のアルナーチャルプラデーシュ州の隣接地域に分布しています。標高１２５０〜２８００メートルの高地に生え、高さは２０〜４５メトールになります。樹形は全体に枝先が下垂するため円錐形になります。葉は鱗片状で青緑色、細かくて柔らかいです。また樹齢５年ほどまでの若木の葉は、柔らかい針状です。別名で「ブータンひのき（ブータン檜）」とも呼ばれます。この植物は、英国王立園芸協会のガーデンメリットを受賞しています。またこの木は、ブータンの国木で、「ツェンデン･シン（Tshenden-Shing）」と呼ばれます。

ヒノキ科イトスギ属の常緑高木で、学名は Cupressus cashmeriana。英名は Kashmir cypress、Bhutan cypress。

The Kashmir cypress (Cupressus cashmeriana) belongs to Cupressaceae (the Cypress family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is found in the eastern Himalayas of Bhutan and adjacent areas of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India. It grows at altitudes of 1250 to 2800 m and reaches a height of 20 to 45 m. The overall shape of the tree is conical with drooping branch tips. The leaves are scaly, blue-green, fine and soft. The leaves of young trees up to 5 years old are soft and needle-like. It is also known as "Bhutan-hinoki" (Bhutan cypress) in Japan. This plant has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Garden Merit. This tree is also the national tree of Bhutan and is called "Tshenden-Shing".
