The Monkey jack (Artocarpus rigida) belongs to Moraceae (the Mulberry family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed from eastern India to Malaysia. The crown of the tree is irregularly ovate. The leaves are thickly papery, oblong, alternate, and entire. It is monoecious, and produces oblong male and female inflorescences at the tips of branches and leaf axils from March to April. The fruits are oblong aggregate fruits that ripen to orange-yellow in mid-July. The rind has spiny protuberances and the flesh is sweet and juicy, and is eaten raw or used to make confections.
