The undulate speedwell (Veronica undulata) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a biennial herb that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China and India to Afghanistan. This herb grows in waste lowlands, stream banks and ditches, and can reach 10-50 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, alternate with acutish teeth. The leaves enfold stems and have wavy edges. The racemes are borne in the axiles and bloom small white flowers from May to June. The corolla is divided into 4 lobes with pale magenta spripes. The fruits are globose capsules with slightly concave tips. The young leaves are used as food.
