"Ke-inubie" (Echinochloa crus-galli var. caudata) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an annual herb that is native to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This grass is a variety of the Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli), large overall and clumping in the wet places. The flowering clusters are about 20 cm long and borne on the stem apices from August to October. They are branched and bear many spikelets about 5 mm long. It is defined by the long dark green to dark purplish-brown aristae on the terminal inferior lemma. This species has continuous phenotypical changes relative to the Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli). It is a C4 plant (Plants with C4-type photosynthesis).
