台湾や中国の福建省に分布しています。桿は直径７〜９センチ、高さは１５〜１８メートルになります。「まだけ（真竹）」と似ていますが、若い桿が蝋質の白粉を帯びるのが特徴です。竹材は緻密で、建築用や器具用に利用されます。タケノコは５月上旬にでて、食用になります。別名で「たいわんまだけ（台湾真竹）」とも呼ばれます。

イネ科マダケ属の常緑タケ類で、学名は Phyllostachys makinoi。英名は Kei-chiku。

"Kei-chiku" (Phyllostachys makinoi) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an evergreen bamboo that is native to Taiwan and Fujian of China. The culms can reach 15-18 m in height, and 7-9 cm in diameter. It is defined that its young culm is covered with waxy white bloom. The timber is dense and used for architecture and equipments. The shoots are borne in early May and edible.
