わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、それにユーラシア大陸北部に分布しています。山野に生え、高さは１５～２０センチになります。鱗茎は卵形で、線形の葉を１個だけだします。４月から５月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして散形花序をだし、６～１０個の黄色い花を咲かせます。果実は球形の蒴果で、３室があります。

ラン科キバナノアマナ属の多年草で、学名は Gagea lutea。英名は Yellow star-of-bethlehem。

Yhe yellow star-of-bethlehem (Gagea lutea) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu-district of Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan and northern Eurasia. This herb grows in fields and mountains, and can reach 15-25 cm in height. The bulb is ovate and sends out one linear leaf. The umbel is borne on the flowering stalk and bloom 6-10 yellow flowers from April to May. The fruits are round capsules and composed of 3 segments.
