The "Kibushi" (Stachyurus praecox) belongs to the Stachyuraceae family. It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed widely all over Japan and East Asia. This tree grows in mountains commonly and can reach 2-3 m in height. The leaves are ovate and alternate. From March to April, racemes of small pale yellowish flowers droop down before foliation. Japanese name means "Chinese gall tree" because of this fruits have been used for dyestuff as a substitute for "Chinese gall". This tree is dioecism.
