ヒマラヤ山麓の低部やその周辺が原産です。林に生え。高さは２メートルほどになります。葉は長楕円状披針形で、先端は尖ります。クリーム色の黄色い花は甘い香りがあり、末端の円錐形の苞から突き出ています。花は８月から９月に咲きます。この植物は、観賞用や芳香油用に栽培されています。

ショウガ科シュクシャ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Hedychium flavum。英名は Yellow butterfly ginger。

The yellow butterfly ginger (Hedychium flavum) belongs to Zingerberaceae (the Ginger family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the low Himalayan foothills and surrounding areas. This herb grows in forests, and up to a height of 2 m. The leaves are oblong-lanceolate with acuminate apex. The creamy yellow flowers are sweetly fragrant and protrude from the terminal cone-shaped bracts. They bloom from August to September. This plant is cultivated as an ornamental and for aromatic oil.
