わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島に分布しています。日当たりの良い草原や河原などに生え、高さは３０〜８０センチになります。葉は細い線形で、６〜１０個が輪生します。ただし、本来の葉は２個だけで、あとは托葉が大きくなったものです。７月から８月ごろ、茎頂や葉腋に円錐花序をだし、小さな黄色い花を咲かせます。

アカネ科ヤエムグラ属の多年草で、学名は Galium verum var. asiatica。英名はありません。

The "Kibana-kawara-matsuba" (Galium verum var. asiatica) belongs to Rubiaceae (the Madder family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan and the Korean Peninsula. This herb grows in sunny grasslands and riverbeds, and can reach 30-80 cm in height. The leaves are narrow linear and 6-10 whorled. They consist of 2 true leaves and enlarged stipules. The panicles are borne atop of stems and axils, and bloom small yellow flowers from July to August.
