"Kikeman" (Corydalis heterocarpa var. japonica) belongs to Papaveraceae (the Poppy family). It is a biennial herb that is distributed from Miyagi prefecture of Honshu south to Shikoku, Kyushu, and the Okinawa Islands in Japan. It grows on the edge of forests and roadsides near the sea, and its height is 40 to 60 cm. The stems branche from the root and are soft, thick and reddish. The leaves are 2 times triternate compound, 10 to 20 cm in length, and the lobes are ovate and serrated. Yellow flowers come in racemes from March to May. There are some brown spots on the tip of the corolla. The fruits are capsules with a slight beaded constriction.
