わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、四国山地や屋久島、それに周極地方に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の砂礫地や岩場に生え、高さは５〜１５センチになります。葉は腎形または心円形で光沢がなく、ロゼットを形成します。６月から８月ごろ、黄色い花を咲かせます。中国名では「双花菫菜（shuang hua jin cai）」。

The Twoflower violet (Viola biflora) belongs to Violaceae (the Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan, the Shikoku Mountains and Yakushima Island of Japan, as well as the Circumpolar. This herb grows in subalpine to alpine screes and scrags, and can reach 5-15 cm in height. The leaves are reniform or cordate, dull pale green and in rossete. The yellow flowers come in June through August. Its Chinese name is "双花菫菜" (shuang hua jin cai).
