The Twoflower violet (Viola biflora) belongs to the Violaceae (the Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido, the Shikoku Mountains and the Yakushima Island of Japan, as well as the Circumpolar. This herb grows in subalpine to alpine screes and scrags, and can reach 5-15 cm in height. The leaves are reniform or cordate, dull pale green and in rossete. The yellow flowers come in June through August.
