ヨーロッパの南部、イタリアから地中海沿岸が原産です。高さは４０〜４０センチになります。茎は直立してよく分枝して、柔らかな毛に被われています。葉は掌状複葉で、７〜９個の小葉があります。４月から６月ごろ、茎頂に総状花序をだし、わずかに香りのある黄色の花を咲かせます。古くから栽培されている品種です。

The Yellow lupine (Lupinus luteus) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is an annual herb that is native to southern Europe; Italy and the Mediterranean. This herb can reach 40-60 cm in height. The stems are erect, much-branched and densely villous. The leaves are palmate compound with 7-9 leaflets. The racemes are borne on the stem apices and bloom lightly-scented yellow flowers from April to June. Yellow lupine has been cultivated from long ago.
