ココヤシ属は一属一種で、東南アジアが原産だろうと考えられています。熱帯や亜熱帯地域の海岸に生え、高さは２０メートルほどになります。果実は飲料に、またコプラと呼ばれる胚乳はヤシ油やマーガリンなどの原料に利用されます。この「キングココやし」は栽培品種で、果実や葉柄が黄色く色づきます。ふつうの「ココやし」より、果汁の糖度が高いそうです。

ヤシ科ココヤシ属の常緑高木で、学名は Cocos nucifera cv. Golden Malayan。英名は Golden Malayan、Yellow Malayan。

Golden Malayan (Cocos nucifera cv. Golden Malayan) belongs to the Aracaceae (the Palm family). It is the sole species in the genus Cocos, and thought to be native to Southeast Asia. This palm grows on the shores of tropical and subtropical areas and is about 20 m high. The fruits are used for beverages, and the endosperm called copra is used for ingredients such as palm oil and margarine. Golden Malayan is a cultivated variety, and the fruits and petioles are colored yellow. It seems that the sugar content of the fruit juice is higher than the normal Coconut palm.
