きんぎんぼく (金銀木)

わが国の北海道から本州、四国、それに朝鮮半島に分布しています。日当たりのよい山野に生え、高さは２メートルほどになります。若い枝には４稜があり軟毛が密生します。４月から６月ごろ、葉腋に２個ずつ花を咲かせます。花色は、はじめの白色からやがて淡い黄色に変わります。秋に赤く熟す果実は２個が合体して瓢箪のかたちになります。このことから「ひょうたんぼく（瓢箪木）」とも呼ばれます。この果実は有毒です。 |

スイカズラ科スイカズラ属の落葉低木で、学名は Lonicera morrowii (syn. Lonicera tatarica var. morrowii)。英名は Morrow's honeysuckle。 |

The Morrow's honeysuckle (Lonicera morrowii) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from Hokkaido to Honshu and Shikoku in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula. This tree grows in sunny fields and mountains and can reach about 2 m in height. The young stems are four ridged and covered with soft hairs. The pair of flowers bloom in the axils in April to June. The flower color is white at first and turns pale yellow. The two fruits ripen to red in the fall and merge to form a gourd. This is why it is also called "瓢箪木" (gourd tree) in Japan. The fruits are poisonous. |
