The "Kingin-so" (Goodyera procera) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from Yakushima Island to the Ryukyu Islands, the Ogasawara Islands in Japan, as well as Taiwan, southern China, Southeast Asia, Bangladesh, and India. It grows on the forest floor and forest edges in mountainous areas and reaches a height of 25 to 80 cm. The stem is erect and has 5 to 11 elliptic to narrow ovate leaves. From March to June, it produces racemes at the top of the stem and blooms with small white flowers with a pale green tinge. Flowers have a nice scent. The Japanese name derives from the resemblance of the yellow color of the flowers as they fade and the white color when in bloom to gold and silver. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "穗花斑葉蘭", and "高斑葉蘭" (gao ban ye lan) in Chinese.
