東南アジアが原産です。現在では、世界の熱帯から温帯地域に広く帰化しています。わが国でも関東地方以西で見ることができます。茎はよく分枝して、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。葉は楕円形で互生し、上半分に鋸歯があります。葉の裏には星状毛が密生します。９月から１０月ごろ、葉腋に淡黄色から白色の花を咲かせます。インドでは、茎の皮から繊維を採るために栽培されていました。

アオイ科キンゴジカ属の多年草で、学名は Sida rhombifolia。英名は Arrowleaf sida。

The arrowleaf sida (Sida rhombifolia) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Southeast Asia. It is naturalized widely in tropical to temperate areas nowadays, and also can be found westward from Kanto district in Japan. The stem is much branched and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are elliptic and serrated on the upper part of them. The abaxial sides of leaves are covered with dense stellate hairs. The pale yellow to white flowers are borne on the axiles from September to October. It was cultivated in India for fabric raw materials.
