The "Kinmei-chiku" (Phyllostachys bambusoides f. castiloni) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a form of "Giant timber bambo"o which is native to China. The culms are 10-20 m in height and 3-8 cm in diameter. They are sunny yellow with green vertical stripes at the bud grooves. It is planted for gardens, and some trees in Shinohara-cho, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Haki-machi, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Akagi-mura, Gunma Prefecture, have been designated as natural monuments.
