"Kinokuni-suzukake" (Veronicastrum tagawae) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the southern Kii Peninsula in Honshu, Japan. This herb grows in forests along river, and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The stems are slender and side-upward with short hairs. The leaves are ovate, glossy with caudate tips, and arranged in alternate. The columnar spikes are borne in the axils, and the small white flowers bloom from September to October.
