The "Kinpouge" (Ranunculus japonicus f. pleniflorus) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is a form of "Mao gen" distributed from the Tohoku region and westward to Chugoku regeion in Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan, and China. It is a double-flowered variety with stamens that become petals, and has been cultivated since the Edo period (1603-1868). The name of the form "pleniflorus" means "double-flowered" in Latin.
