ヨーロッパの南部が原産です。湿り気のあるところや道ばたなどに生え、高さは５０〜６０センチになります。６月から１１月ごろ、芳香のある濃いオレンジ色の花を咲かせます。西洋の薬草のなかでも、よく知られた用途の広いもので、虫さされなどの民間治療薬としても有名です。わが国では、仏花によく使われます。 写真中５・中６の品種は、「シンプリシティ・ミックス（cv. Simplicity Mixed）」、 中７・中８は、「芯黒」、 中９・中１０は、「切り花用オレンジ」、 中１１・中１２は、「ピンクサプライズ（cv. Pink Surprise）」、 中１３・下は、「タッチオブレッド（cv. Touch of Red）」。 |

キク科キンセンカ属の一年草で、学名は Calendula officinalis。英名は Pot marigold。 |

The pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is native to South Europe. This herb grwos in waste lands and along roadsides, and can reach 50-60 cm in height. It is in flower from June to November, and the flowers are deep-orange and scented. The Pot marigold is one of the best known and versatile herbs in Western herbal medicine and is also a popular domestic remedy for bites and stings by insects. This flower is often used to offering for family altar in Japan. |
