熱帯アメリカや西インド諸島が原産の「おおごちょう」の園芸品種です。高さは１．８〜４．５メートルほどになり、葉は２回羽状複葉です。枝には鋭いとげがあります。温度さえあれば周年、枝先の長い円錐花序に鮮やかな黄色い花を咲かせます。黄色い雄しべが突きだしていて目立ちます。

ジャケツイバラ科ホウオウボク属の常緑低木で、学名は Poinciana pulcherrima cv. Flava。英名は Yellow dwarf poinciana。

The Yellow dwarf poinciana (Poinciana pulcherrima cv. Flava) belongs to the family Caesalpiniaceae. It is a small evergreen herb that is a gardening variety of "Dwarf poinciana" native to tropical America and the West Indies. This tree grows up to a height of 1.8-4.5 m. The leaves are bi-pinnate compound. The branches have sharp thorns. The brilliant yellow flowers will bloom in a long conical inflorescence, year around if the temperature keeps comfortable. The yellow stamens are well exserted and visible.
