わが国の本州、紀伊半島から四国・九州それに朝鮮半島に分布しています。１属１種です。山地のブナ林帯の林床や湿った石灰岩地などに生え、高さは８０〜１２０センチほどになります。葉は掌状に浅裂し、やや光沢があります。８月ごろ、鮮やかな黄色の花を咲かせます。

ユキノシタ科キレンゲショウマ属の多年草で、学名は Kirengeshoma palmata。英名はありません。

"Kirenge-shoma" (Kirengeshoma palmata) belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to the Kii Peninsula of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan and the Korean Peninsula. It is the only species in the genus Kirengeshoma. This herb grows on the floors of montane beech forests or wet limestone, and can reach 80-120 cm in height. The leaves are pinnately lobed and somewhat shiny. The bright yellow flowers bloom in August.
