ゴマノハグサ科シオガマギク属の多年草で、学名は Pediculasis chamissonis var. hokkaidoensis。英名はありません。
The "Kita-yotsuba-shiogama" (Pediculasis chamissonis var. hokkaidoensis) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and distributed from the southern part of the Tohoku region (north of the Iide Mountains) to Hokkaido. It grows in gravelly areas and rocky places in subalpine and alpine zones, reaching a height of 20 to 50 cm. The leaves are pinnately parted and arranged in whorls of 5 to 7. From July to August, it blooms with pale reddish-purple flowers in 7 to 12 tiers. The corolla is dimorphic, with the upper lip pointed like a beak. It is characterized by the corolla being bent at the point where it meets the calyx. It is also known by the name "Hakkoda-shiogama".
In 1997, genetic analysis by Noriyuki Fujii revealed that what had previously been considered "Yotsuba-shiogama" was actually divided into two main species: "Yotsuba-shiogama" from central Honshu and this species from the northern region.
