わが国の本州、関東地方から近畿地方に分布しています。「おくとりかぶと（奥鳥兜）」の変種で、山地の林内や林縁に生えます。葉は５〜７中裂します。８月から１０月ごろ、茎の先の散房花序に青紫色の花を咲かせます。花柄や雄しべに毛がないのが特徴です。和名は、京都の北山に多く生えることから。

キンポウゲ科トリカブト属の多年草で、学名は Aconitum japonicum var. eizanense。英名はありません。

"Kitayama-bushi" (Aconitum japonicum var. eizanense) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Kanto to Kinki regions of Honshu in Japan. It is a variant of the "Oku-torikabuto" and grows in forests and along forest margins in mountainous areas. It produces blue-purple flowers in corymbs at the ends of stems from August to October. The flowers are characterized by the absence of hairs on the stalk and stamens. Its Japanese name comes from the fact that it grows abundantly in the Kitayama of Kyoto.
