The Field scabious (Knautia arvensis) belongs to Dipsacaceae (the Teasel family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Europe to Siberia and the northern Caucasus region. It grows in pastures, fields, and roadsides, reaching heights of 25 to 100 cm. The stems bear long, stiff hairs pointing downward and usually have purple spots. The leaves are pinnately divided; the lower leaves have stipes and form a rosette. The upper leaves are smaller and may be undivided. From May to August, it produces scapes bearing dome-shaped capitula densely packed with small pink to lilac flowers. The fruit is a small, hairy, angular achene.
