わが国の本州から四国・九州に分布しています。山地の少し薄暗いところに生え、高さは１〜２メートルになります。６月から７月ごろ、枝先に小さな散房花序をだし、青紫色の小さな花（普通花）をたくさん咲かせます。ほかのアジサイ属のように、装飾花はつきません。

アジサイ科アジサイ属の落葉低木で、学名は Hydrangea hirta。英名はありません。

The "Ko-ajisai" (Hydrangea hirta) belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan. This tree grows in semi-shade places of mountains and can reach 1-2 m in height. The corymbs are borne on the terminal branches and bloom small blueish-purple flowers from June to July. It is different from other Hydrangea genus in that has not ornamental flowers.
