The Bengal match lichen (Cladonia floerkeana) belongs to the family Cladoniaceae. It is a fruticose lichen that is widely distributed throughout Japan and the Northern Hemisphere. Its distribution is centered in the warm temperate zone, and it grows on the ground, decaying wood, and coniferous tree trunks in lowlands and mountains. The podetia are 10 mm to 30 mm high, with a diameter of 1.5 mm. They may be branched at the tips, and covered with coarse squamules. The apothecia form on the rim of the tip of the podetia, and they are light to dark brown in color. The red pycnidia also form on the tips of the podetia.
