熱帯アメリカのブラジルが原産です。今では各地で栽培されたり帰化しています。高さは１〜５メートルくらいになりますが、茎は中空です。葉は卵形から披針形で、長さは１０〜２５センチあります。漏斗形の花は、淡紅色をしています。種子は長い褐色の毛に被われます。

ヒルガオ科サツマイモ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Ipomoea crassicaulis。英名は Bush morning glory。

The bush morning glory (Ipomoea crassicaulis) belongs to Convolvulaceae (the Morning glory family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Brazil in the tropical America. Nowadays, it is planted and naturalized elsewhere. This shrub can reach 1-5 m in height. The stem is mid-air. The leaves are ovate to lanceolate, 10-25 cm long. The flowers are pale rose pink and funnel-shaped. The seeds are covered with long brown hairs.
